InRickCampbell’snextaction-packedthrillerDeepStrike,theU.S.AtlanticfleetisinaracetostoparogueRussiansubmarine--fundedbyISIS--enroutetolaunchamissileattackagainsttheeastcoastoftheU.S.Ashoulder-launchedmissileattackonaconvoyofvehiclesleavingtheU.N.headquartersinNewYorkkillsseveraldiplomats,includingtheAmericanambassador.Securityfootagerevealsthatthekillerbehindtheattackisadisgracedformerspecialforcesoperative,LonnieMixell.ButbeforeU.S.intelligenceoperativescancatchupwithhim,Mixellisalreadyontothenextphaseofhisplan.WithfundingfromthenearlyshatteredISIS,MixellplansanattackontheU.S.thatwillbemoredevastatingthan9/11.HebribesadesperateRussiansubmarinecommandertotakehissubmarinetotheAtlanticOceanandlaunchasalvoofmissilesatvarioustargetsalongtheEastCoastoftheUnitedStates.Thecommanderliestohiscrewthatit’sasecretmission,withdummymissiles,foratrainingexercise.Atthesametime,unbeknownsttothecommander,Mixellhasarrangedforfourofthemissilewarheadstobereplacedwithfoursurplusnuclearwarheadsandarmsthem.WhentheRussiansubmarinesinkstheU.S.subthatistrackingit,theU.S.militaryisalarmed.AssoonasintelligenceuncoversMixwell’splot,though,itbecomesaraceagainsttime:findtheRussiansubandsinkitbeforeitcanlaunchacatastrophicnuclearattack.ThenuclearattackisonlyonestageofMixell’splan--andthenextphaseispotentiallyevenmoredevastating.Tostophimwouldalmostrequireamiracleandtimeisswiftlyrunningout.
